He is also author viz. co-author of many articles written on various forums in a.o. England, the United States of America, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.

Since 1991 Frits is working on a models list of all German steam locomotives in all scales, released by most (and less) well known European factories.

Much of his research is published on his website of which the Models List, Laenderbahnen and Picture Book are his opus magnus.

In 2009, Frits Osterthun made a three day photoshoot at the Landshut Micro Metakit Office under supervison of Mr. Frits Passberger and Thomas Maulu, and is considered to be the exclusive owner of the world's finest Micro Metakit pictures, containing ca. 80% of all H0 stock ever released by Micro Metakit. More pictures of rare models are being added regularly due to privately shooting collections containing models from Micro Metakit, Micro Feinmechanik, Lemaco, Fulgurex, Model Loco, Weinert and especially models handcrafted by Klaus-Dieter Pfennig and Gebhard Reitz.

A model layout in German style of the late 19th century, situated on the border of Bayern (Bavaria) and Württemberg, was made by Frits Osterthun, known as Die Cochemer Bahn. Since 2019 Frits started a major Renovation of the Cochemer Bahn, and lifted the project into a new era.
